I started my career in research in the area of Genetics when I was 22. I worked on various projects including one on fetal heart disease and others on various cancers. It was during this time that I found myself in need of Counselling. I had reached a point and I didn’t know where to turn. Counselling was a breath of fresh air for me and it was after this that I truly realised how valuable counselling can be. I had decided I wanted to take my life in a different direction and so it was at this point I started my training.
I moved to Cumbria in 2015 and after a few months of living here I discovered Eden Valley Hospice. I began volunteering at EVH as a bereavement counsellor in the family support team. I feel honoured to work there. I have worked with many different people in all stages of grief but also work with other issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem, exam and relationship stresses etc.
My aim is to work with you, the individual, on a one to one basis. I will provide a safe, empathetic, confidential space where you feel that you can express yourself in any shape or form. It’s where you can truly open up and be yourself, not be ashamed or worried that you might be judged for what you say. The idea is that you will receive tips and information that you can use when you are not in the sessions, you will be able to incorporate them into your day to day life if you so wish.
I have a Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. Working in an Integrative way means I can use a variety of different tools and techniques to tailor your talking therapy to you and your needs. I have experience in Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Person Centred Therapy puts you at the heart of the therapy. It allows you to express yourself in a full and honest way with no judgments put upon you. Psychodynamic allows us to look at the past things in your life that may be having an affect on your present. And finally CBT can help to target problem areas and can provide resources to complete in your own time. I am constantly updating my training to further my knowledge and skills through CPD courses.
